However, both underperformed significantly (don't think they flopped), which resulted in de-canonising La Llorona and cancelling all other spin-off films, including The Crooked Man which also was planned. 2019 had both La Llorona and Annabelle Comes Home, the latter set up a ton of different spooky demons. I think the idea once for the Conjuring Universe was to double down on the spin offs. You fucking nailed it on the nun progression from the tease to the intro to the full movie.
